Eddie Clearwater: Help Yourself (Blind Pig 1992)

Eddie Clearwater is a Chicago bluesman working in the West-Side Chicago blues tradition.  Although he has been dismissed as a showboater and even a copycat (perfect Chuck Berry impersonations), he plays a really smooth but hard electric guitar.  Just as importantly from our perspective, he also has a great back-up band playing with him on this date, recorded with a full, rich sound that fills the room with a rich blanket of Blues.

Several songs on this album are Westie songs: not the trite, loose, poppy stuff, but the deep, richly-bassed, and guttural kind that really makes you wanna get your groove on.  However, he does break through with some heavy-grooving swinging blues, including the welcome invitation to make the "Crossover" from listening to Rock trash to listening and dancing to the Blues.
