Benny Goodman: The Yale Archives Vol. 3

Benny Goodman recorded several of his shows through the 50s and 60s.  When he passed away, he bequeathed to Yale University all of his arrangements, memorabilia selected by his estate, and all the master tapes and licensing rights to Benny's private collection of his previously-unreleased recordings.

Yale Library released these recordings in several volumes of the "Yale Archives" series on the musicmasters label.  All of these volumes present a softer, more mature, groove-oriented side of Benny Goodman.  After the Swing Era ended and Goodman's popularity wained, he preferred to play classical music in small groups, but the Yale Archives releases feature him playing live jazz.

On Volume 3, Goodman plays with "Little" Jimmy Rushing: Count Basie's first regular singer during the swing era who popularized the genre of "Blues Shouters."  Zoot Sims also joins in on Saxaphone.
