Barbara Morrison: Live at the 9:20 Special(Springboard Productions 2002)
This recording marks one of the first times that Lindy Hoppers connected with musicians of their ilk to come up with an incredible recording of pure Lindy Hop Groove music. Bands like this have been assembled across the country at various Exchanges (or "UnExchanges") and Workshops, but have never been recorded with such clarity and quality. Instead of needing to purchase ten Gene Harris or Jack MacDuff CDs to come up with one danceable CD of Lindy Groove music, this CD contains all danceable music. The 9:20 Special is Paul Overton's immensely-successful Thursday night dance in San Francisco (now in Oakland). With Paul and Jesse Miner DJing, it is truly one of the best weekly Lindy Hop venues in the country. Elliott Donnelly teamed up with Paul and Sharon Ashe to bring Barbara Morrison to the 9:20 Special to reproduce a night in April 2001 when Barbara knocked the socks off dancers at a Lindy Hop workshop in Sacramento. The back-up band was hand-picked by top-notch Lindy Hoppers to play in a venue for Lindy Hoppers, sponsored by Lindy Hoppers. Again, every song on this CD is aimed towards Lindy Hoppers, so it is worth the premium.
